At St Andrew’s College, we believe that education is not just a pathway to opportunity—it is a return to something deeper. Buyel’ekhaya, meaning ‘coming home’ in isiXhosa, is more than a name. It is a reflection of our soul as a school, and of the Eastern Cape itself—a place where land, legacy and people are woven together in quiet strength.
In celebration of our 175th milestone, we have launched the Buyel’ekhaya Endowment Fund, including five pathways of support, to build a lasting foundation for scholarships and bursaries. This fund exists to support boys and families for whom St Andrew’s is not just a school, but a place of belonging. It is our way of honouring the enduring spirit of this region: its generosity, its resilience and its deep-rooted sense of community.

This stream opens doors for Eastern Cape families from historically disadvantaged backgrounds, offering access to world-class education and the chance to thrive. It is a commitment to equity, to transformation and to the belief that talent and promise are found in every corner of our province.
Drawn from the soil and the seasons, this stream supports the sons of Eastern Cape farming families whose lives are deeply connected to the land. It recognises the vital role these communities play in our province’s economy and spirit and strengthens the bond between College and countryside.
This flexible stream allows us to support exceptional boys from diverse backgrounds and locations. It ensures that our school remains enriched by a wide range of voices, experiences, and perspectives—each contributing to the vibrant tapestry of Andrean life.
This stream recognises the extraordinary dedication of the men and women who serve St Andrew’s with passion and purpose. It supports the sons of staff members by helping to bridge financial gaps and cover key educational expenses such as tuition, academic materials and activities. In doing so, it honours our staff’s commitment and strengthens College’s ability to attract and retain exceptional staff for generations to come.
Today, over 30% of our boys receive some financial support in the form of scholarships and bursaries,
but this is simply not enough. Many more deserving young men remain out of reach due to limited resources.
To preserve the Andrean ethos and extend
life-changing opportunities, we must grow our endowment by several hundred million Rand.
This will ensure access for future
generations.
